The Farmer

Austen Graham and Ash Lewis are new to farming! Austen used to be an archaeologist and Ash is still a beautiful carpenter, but both are keen to start growing healthy food for others. They both only started to discover where their food came from when they moved to Nipaluna in 2022 and soon realised how much more enjoyable their meals and grocery shopping became by buying locally. Now, they aim to help as many people ‘Know Your Farmer’ as possible!
Landing in the Huon Valley from Naarm and Geelong, Austen and Ash are focused on making meaningful connections within the community and want to contribute to the place they now call home positively. Other than aiming to be respectful caretakers of the land, Austen and Ash’s priority is to connect with people across Lutruwita and help encourage others to support small-scale farming and buy locally.
The Farm
Lightwood Larders’ priority is to leave the land healthy for future generations, paying respects to past, present & emerging Traditional Custodians of the amazing land Lightwood Larder is set on. Nestled on a 30-acre piece of paradise in Melukerdee Country, the ½ acre market farm is just starting to grow annual and perennial vegetables to make yummy veggie boxes for locals.
Lightwood Larder wants to help people eat food that is healthy, locally grown, and produced in a way that doesn’t cost the planet. Growing vegetables using chemical-free and no-till farming practices helps ensure that the food the customer eats is safe, healthy and nutritious. Seasonally grown vegetables mean that the Lightwood Larder veggie boxes are always different and keep cooking in the kitchen interesting!
By using considerate farming practices and connecting with customers, Lightwood Larder will further the move toward greater food sovereignty in our community. Vegetables at supermarkets are becoming less and less healthy for the customer’s diet, the customer’s wallet, and, just as importantly, the environment. Lightwood Larder veggie boxes will be for anybody who wants to support local, eat healthy, and have more meaningful meals on their family’s plates.
