The Farmer

I’m Harry, I am an ex chef and farmer having formerly worked on beef cattle and sheep properties.

I farm mainly solo but have the help of a friend/employee twice a week on my delivery days and help from my family whenever they are on the farm. I live with my partner Jess and toddler son Luca. We are just about to begin building our house on the farm which is a dream for both of us. We both grew up on farms and want the same for our son. 

Our vision is to live simply, grow food for ourselves and our community and make the farm profitable enough to survive on. 

The Farm

La Luna is an organically run market garden utilising no-till methods. Our broad aims are to improve the soil and ecosystems on the farm and grow healthy and nutritionally dense food for ourselves and our community. The farm itself is 10 acres with 2 acres fenced off as a garden. The remaining areas being either degraded bushland which is being left to revegetate on its own or pasture which is being planted out with natives we grow ourselves.

Over the two fenced acres we grow a broad mix of vegetables, fruits and perennial flowers. A young orchard surrounds the garden but being an exposed area it is slow growing so still a few years away.

At this time we sell to restaurants, wholefood stores and supply weekly veggie boxes direct to customers. It’s only our second growing season so we are open to whatever new opportunities come our way. Soon we will also be selling direct from site when our little farmgate shed is finished.
