heads up
DRAFT guidance for establishing & operating a micro or mobile livestock processing facility in TAS has been released for public consultation by Biosecurity Tasmania, NRE.
Feedback is due by 5pm, 30th March.
our thoughts
STAMP and Sprout collectively feel this work has been very important, in clarifying the current pathway for gaining the relevant approvals for a meat processing facility in Tasmania.
The documents highlight just how complex the process is currently.
We don’t feel there is much that needs to be tweaked within this documentation, but it is more about what comes next!
your next steps
Please submit your feedback about the documents and the broader process with Biosecurity Tasmania! This is your chance to have your say.
To help, STAMP and Sprout have joined forces and developed two templates – one for consumers (chefs, eaters) and one for producers.

background
The Guidance Document was developed in response to a petition received by the Premier in March 2025, kick started by STAMP.
A working group was convened in March 2025 to inform the development of the Guidance Document and Road Map. The working group consisted of representatives from the principal petitioner, the Southern Tasmanian Association of Meat Processors (STAMP), Sprout Tasmania, TasFarmers, Government departments, local councils and other industry representatives.
