The Great Green

The Farmer

My name is Leah, I’m a market gardener in the Meander Valley with an interest in permaculture and community resilience. I grew up here in Westbury, and, after studying international development at uni in Adelaide, returned to raise a family. I produce fresh local food for my community, and I love being able to support my family through work that centres community resilience and relationships, as well as elements of social justice and environmental activism.

The Farm

The Great Green is a small-scale, family-owned and operated nursery and market garden in the middle of Westbury. Alongside our small nursery of locally-grown edible plants, we grow a wide range of seasonal vegetables and herbs and deliver them weekly to households in our community. We operate as a Community Supported Agriculture program, where our members support us to grow food for their families season by season. We farm using no-till principles, without the use of chemical pesticides or herbicides, because we want our farm to have a positive part to play in local ecology. We focus on building soil health, increasing biodiversity and producing wildly delicious and nutritious fresh food.
