The Farmer

Jess, a former nurse turned homesteader, has dedicated the last 6 years to teaching her children not only where their food comes from, but also the hard work and dedication that goes into growing, raising and nurturing it. After years in the healthcare field, she realises how crucial a connection to local, nutrient dense food is for both individual and community health and how often that connection is lost in today’s fast paced world.
With a background in permaculture, Jess is a passionate advocate for building strong local food systems, driven by the belief that connection between healthy soil and healthy people brings a thriving interconnected community.
The Farm
Woodsong Farm is a 39ha property in Lebrina in Tassies North/East, run by Jess and her three young children.
Currently growing microgreens and edible flowers, cultivating vibrant, nutrient dense produce for local restaurants, cafes and caterers. With a keen eye for quality and flavour, we specialise in growing a wide variety of microgreens that are packed with flavour and essential nutrients as well as colourful, aromatic edible flowers to elevate any dish. Jess’s commitment to sustainable practices ensures that all her produce is grown using organic principles, along with the use of solar power.
In the near future, the farm will expand its offerings to include regenerative beef. Through practices like rotational grazing and holistic land management, Woodsong Farm aims to produce high quality nose to tail beef, whilst improving soil and pasture health.
Current work at Woodsong Farm includes upgrading infrastructure to create functional permaculture systems that promote biodiversity and regenerative land stewardship.
Looking ahead, Jess and Woodsong Farm aim to integrate more holistic practices, such as increasing biodiversity on the land through supporting healthy ecosystems. The farm serves to demonstrate how small scale farming can contribute to a thriving ecosystem and a stronger, more connected local food system.
