It is well and truly Spring, you can smell it in the air can't you?! There are stories below in our Spring blog The Dirt, so scroll down to check it out. This photo was taken on our Sprout Producer Program field day on Fork it Farm in Lebrina...such a beautiful day on that property, and you can see the triangle shaped paddocks down below that pivot around a central point....(aka. Piggy heaven)!
Small Producer Award - 2019
We had so many amazing nominations from the Tasmanian Community, with such beautiful heartfelt messages about why their nominated farmer deserves some recognition. Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate someone.
We will announce the winner very soon! Here are the finalists for 2019, congratulations to all of you, as you are doing such an incredible job as small, ethical, sustainable farmers who are contributing to the community and the environment! Thanks to Blundstone Australia for their ongoing support of this award, in providing tickets to Cross Pollinate and shiny new boots for the winners!

Sprout Membership update
A while ago the Board voted unanimously to flatten the Sprout membership structure, to ensure it was simple and easy to support and engage with the organisation, so for $60 per year, anyone can be a member of the Sprout Family and access our benefits and also feel the warm and fuzzies for supporting an organisation fundamentally committed to empowering small producers throughout Tasmania.
We have also now rolled our membership into an annual structure, that renews on the 1st of July each year as this streamlines our processes in the office and enables us to plan more carefully in relation to finance.
Events & What's On
Cross Pollinate 2019 will be held on Monday 18th November at Curringa Farm at Hamilton… have you secured your ticket yet?
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Building Resilience’ and with a range of workshops, comprehensive farm tour from owner Tim Parsons, a masterclass from RAW Tasmania, panel discussion and keynote address by Polly McGee, you will come away from the day experiencing a number of opportunities to reflect upon your farm, your soil, your business and yourself! We want you to walk away from the day with tangible skills to build resilience in all aspects of your life and your land.
Hosted by Jane and Tim Parsons from Curringa Farm, located in Hamilton about 75km north west of Hobart on the edge of the Central Highlands, you will get the chance to explore this beautiful agri-tourism property and learn first hand the benefits of the Parsons’ regeneration and diversification work as sixth generation farmers of this land.
Of course it wouldn’t be a Cross Pollinate if we didn’t wrap up the day with a celebration at the end! Enjoy drinks, grazing platters and an opportunity to talk shop… or not… with other attendees before hitting the road.
Workshops 2020 - we are building our calendar of workshops for next year, and so far we have penciled in:
- Polytunnels (as we had such high demand for the first one)
- Soil health
- Human Slaughter of Poultry (for backyard gardeners & small producers)
Let us know if you have any other topics or ideas, or would like to host a workshop yourself. Mark Massie is our board member who is managing this project, he can be reached on [email protected]

VIC wholesaler for 100% Tassie produce
A while ago, we met with Tarin and Hannah McManus, who have started a purely Tassie produce focussed wholesale business in VIC. It was great to hear their story, and why Tassie produce is the cornerstone of their new business, and it is evident they are very passionate about the state and our amazing produce.
