Sprout Tasmania Seeking Volunteer Board Chair

Sprout Tasmania is seeking an experienced governance leader to step into the voluntary role of Board Chair, helping guide the organisation as it continues to support and champion Tasmania’s small-scale farming sector.

This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role in shaping the future of a growing organisation working at the heart of Tasmania’s local food and farming community.

We welcome applications from people who share Sprout’s commitment to a thriving, sustainable Tasmanian food and farming sector.

About the Role

As Chair, you will lead the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities and guiding Sprout Tasmania’s strategic direction. The role involves working closely with the Board and Chief Executive Officer to ensure strong governance, financial sustainability and organisational accountability.

You will help support the organisation as it continues to grow its impact across Tasmania — strengthening partnerships, supporting small-scale producers, and contributing to the development of a resilient local food system.

This role is particularly suited to someone with governance experience who is passionate about regional communities and agriculture.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring:

  • Governance and board leadership experience
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen
  • A passion for Tasmania’s farming and regional communities
  • An understanding of small-scale agriculture or food systems (desirable)

Candidates should also demonstrate strong communication skills, sound judgement and an ability to contribute to constructive board discussion and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

The Chair plays an important leadership role in guiding the Board and supporting the organisation’s strategic direction.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and facilitating effective Board meetings
  • Ensuring strong governance and organisational accountability
  • Supporting strategic planning and oversight
  • Maintaining a constructive working relationship with the CEO
  • Representing Sprout Tasmania with key stakeholders where appropriate

As a values-led organisation with a small team, Sprout benefits from an engaged and proactive Chair who is willing to contribute beyond formal meeting settings during periods of organisational growth or transition.

Commitment

The Chair will:

  • Prepare for and attend Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting
  • Participate in strategic planning activities
  • Maintain regular communication with Board members and the CEO
  • Uphold the vision, mission and values of Sprout Tasmania

This is a voluntary leadership role based in Tasmania.
